Gold verge with matching chatelaine

A very fine and rare French, 18 Carat gold and enamel, pearl and rose-cut diamond-set pendant watch, circa 1790. With matching chatelaine, key and seal. Accompanied by the original gold tooled leather fitted box. The back is decorated with translucent royal blue enamel over engine-turning with the applied diamond-set words “Gage D’Amitié“, and split pearl-set bezels. The chatelaine has a single crest form panel decorated en suite with the applied diamond-set words “Pensez a moi“, and three matching chains; for the watch, seal and key.

White enamel dial, upright Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions with fifteen minute Arabic numerals, winding aperture at 2 o’clock. Gold tapered serpentine hands.
A frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental type cock with polished steel endplate, silver regulator dial. Dial and movement signed.
