An extremely rare and decorative gold enamel verge pocket watch set with half pearls Keepsake commemorating Sappho, circa 1810. 18 Carat gold case, back with opaque polychrome enamelling: a sad looking youth points to a pedestal vase set with pearls and inscription Sapho; Fama, goddess of fame and renown, decorates the vase with a laurel branch to honour the poetess; band with cobalt blue enamelling, translucid blossoms with alternate half pearls, pendant with champlevé enamelling. Enamel dial, Arabic numerals and gold arrow shaped hands. Full plate movement, extra thin, key wind, fire gilt, signed, chain/fusee, circular pillars, verge escapement, three arm brass balance, fine orally engraved and pierced balance bridge.
