Unsigned repeating two train cylinder watch
–
A French gold quarter repeating two train cylinder watch featuring independent jumping center seconds and a unique textured enamel dial, circa 1820. The watch features a frosted gilded two train movement with a cylinder escapement, a flat three arm balance, and a blued steel spiral hairspring equipped with bimetallic compensation curb and parachute suspension. It has separate hanging barrels for the going and independent center seconds trains and two polished steel hammers that repeat on coiled gongs. The white enamel dial showcases an off-white matte center adorned with a large flower motif, a matte outer ring, moon hands, and a blued steel center seconds hand. The gold case is crafted with an engine turned back and bezels, a pendant locking slide positioned between 1 and 2 o’clock, and a polished gold cuvette featuring apertures for winding each train and handsetting, all engraved with directional markings and movement details. The cuvette and pendant bear French control marks, and the case is numbered.

The movement is running, and the seconds hand appears to be jumping well. The repeating mechanism is operational and sounds clear. The movement would likely benefit from a service and overhaul. The dial is in good overall condition. The case has light scuffs and scratches, with some rubbing and loss of definition to the engine turned finish at the edge of the back. The French control marks seem to date from the early 1820s.
