A French extraordinary and small quarter repeating gentleman’s pocket watch with double wheel duplex escapement, quarter-hour self strike and musical movement, circa 1825.
18 Carat rose gold, engine-turned case with engine-turned band, slide for repetition and for activating the musical movement, and case maker’s punch mark IC. Gold, engine-turned dial with inlaid radial Roman numerals on applied round cartouches, and lozenge pink gold hands. Keywind, frosted gilt bridge movement with two hammers / two gongs, two going barrels, on tray musical movement with pinned disc and two combs with eight and nine vibrating blades, and three-arm mirror-polished steel balance.

This extraordinary piece combines a musical movement with a hammer strike; on release, a short tune is played that is immediately followed by the quarter strike with two hammers. It is also unusual that such a watch was fitted with what was at the time a novel escapement known for its precision.
