A French quarter repeating Louis XV Oignon watch with striking train and mock pendulum, circa 1720.
Silver case with bell, plain and smooth edition, nine small sound openings. Very rare Oignon movement, repeating hours and quarters, mock pendulum, splendid verge bridge with birds, main plate signed. Typical Louis XV enamel dial with Roman hours, Arabic minutes with the original minute hand and replaced hour hand.

Pierre Gaudron is noted as an outstanding watchmaker. He was the son of Antoine Gaudron and worked between 1690 and 1730 in Paris. Gaudron also made watches on behalf of the government. He was a court watchmaker of the Duc d’Orleans and the King of France. He became a master in 1695.
