The case and movement number indicates a very early production, around 1850. However, since this timepiece is already equipped with a crown winding mechanism, ¾ plate and index spring fine adjustment, it can be assumed that the watch was made around 1900.

The Glashütte expert Hans-Georg Donner explains: The movement number 1850 is another Glashütte pocket watch made by J. Assmann for the Berlin company C. Jägermann. The number 32 additionally punched on the main plate of this watch allows the assumption that this is a pocket watch from a small series of pocket watches made by J. Assmann, especially for C. Jägermann. The type of production and the unusual way of marketing falls into the early years of the 20th century, an extremely critical economic time for the J. Assmann company and its new partner Georg Heinrich after the flood damage of 1897. Signatures from this period are also documented, such as Union Horlogere, of which J. Assmann was a member for a few years from 1903, as well as e.g. ‘Specially manufactured for’ Eigenmann in Nuremberg and Löbner company in Berlin. However, the standard five-digit serial numbering appropriate to the time was retained.
