Pocket watch with erotic motivs engraved front
–
A pocket watch with magnificently engraved case, made by Moritz Grossmann in Glashütte, Germany, circa 1870. The numbered ceremonial case is crafted from 18 carat gold, has a coin rim, is unique with engraved erotic motifs on the front and monogram, stars and floral motifs on the back. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and blued steel hands. The numbered movement has a very early Moritz Grossmann precision lever escapement with a gold lever and a gold escapement wheel, a separate gear cock, the “Grandman screw” as fine adjustment and an early version of winding wheels made of aluminum bronze.
