This coach clock was produced in Friedberg, Germany. Heinrich Eckhert, however, added the designation “London” to his signature like an English maker would, to achieve a higher sales price. In addition to Eckhert, there were another 24 makers in Friedberg at the time whose names, sometimes spelled backwards, can be found with a fake designation such as London, Paris or Augsburg.
–
According to Juergen Abeler, Heinrich (Henricus) Eckert (Eckherd, Egger(t), Eger, Egerd) was a watchmaker in Friedberg. He was born in Ottmaring in 1717 and died in 1788. Other carriage clocks can be found in important private collections and museums, such as the museum of local history in Friedberg.

Signed: Eckhert, London
