A decorative German pair cased verge pocket watch à quatre couleurs, circa 1780.
Two cases: outer case – brass gilt, glazed, with large lateral hinge and the frame on the front and back side lined with tortoiseshell; inner case – gold, with chased decoration in high relief à quatre couleurs and on the back side an oval medallion framed by garlands, Venus and Cupid at the altar of love. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours, Arabic minutes and Louis XVI hands. Full plate movement, keywind, fire gilt and signed, with chain/fusee, moulded movement pillars, three-arm brass balance and engraved and florally pierced balance bridge.

Christian Heinrich Weisse
 Christian Heinrich Weisse was born in 1724 into a well-known clockmaking family. He became a master in 1788 and died in 1793. The family continued the watchmaking tradition until the end of the 19th century.
