Pair cased quarter repeating coach clock with alarm
–
An extremely rare German pair cased quarter repeating coach clock with alarm, probably of Friedbergian provenance, made for the English market, circa 1740.
Brass silver outer case covered with ray skin, stud decoration and plaited band, a silver inner case with a florally pierced edge, grotesque ornaments: ribbon decoration, acanthus, birds of prey and masks and a ball pendant. The dial is silver champlevé with a central alarm disc. It has a gilt full plate movement, a chain/fusee for going train, two lavishly engraved barrels for repeater and alarm, three hammers/one bell and a three-arm brass balance.
