Rock crystal pendant watch by Richard Ledertz
–
Rare French rock crystal, silver and gilt brass, octagonal verge pendant watch, circa 1620-1630.
This exquisite watch features a hinged octagonal gilt brass and partly blued full plate chain fusee movement, with a verge escapement, plain steel balance without spring, and a small-footed irregular foliate pierced and engraved cock. The gilt brass dial of the watch is adorned and decorated with engravings of leaves and angels; it has a silver chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, half-hour markers, and a single steel hand. The centre of the dial features engravings of a village. The dial is housed in an octagonal gilt brass case with a deep back cut from a single piece of rock crystal. The sides and back of the case are faceted, while the front cover is hinged and made of rock crystal. Richard Ledertz’s signature is displayed on the backplate of the movement.
