Silver pair-cased pocket watch by Philipp Kissel
–
A large South German pair-cased verge pocket watch, circa 1790. This antique, heavy timepiece has a double case of silver, metal and tortoiseshell. The inner case is numbered 857. The watch has a full plate verge movement with exquisite decoration and a bridge decorated with a silver eagle. The edge of the plate is signed. The original enamel dial is signed and has a small enamel decoration in the centre. The dial features radial Roman hours, an outer minute track and gold-plated hands. The edge area of the dial underwent restoration. The movement is in working condition, while the outer case has defects in the tortoiseshell decoration. The tortoiseshell was replaced by leather on the front by a reputable watchmaker.
