Due to the magnificent 18 carat case and the elaborately designed dial, this watch was presumably made for the U.S. market, which was still Assmann’s main sales area at the time. The engraving ‘J. Assmann Dresden’ on the gold cuvette and the movement also confirm this assumption. The law in the U.S.A. required the indication of the watch’s origin since Glashütte was not yet known at the time, A. Lange & Cie and Julius Assmann signed their pocket watches intended for export with ‘Dresden’.
