Brass and silver repeater in pair cases by Hiltel

A  large, heavy German silver pair cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1750. Full plate movement, chain and fusee, two hammers and a three arm brass balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours, outer minute divisions and decorative hands. A brass and silver painted outer case with sound openings and studs, the inner case is engraved with floral and geometric patterns, a back bell. Movement signed. Comes with a contemporary winding key.

The Hiltel (or Hiltl) watchmaking family comes from Regensburg, Germany. G. Ch. Hiltel, probably Georg Christian, can be found as a small watchmaker in Regensburg around 1750. His two sons Johann Nicolaus and Samuel Christian were also watchmakers in Regensburg around 1800.
