A highly unusual and historically interesting French 14 carat rose gold open faced watch with ivory verge movement made for Josephine Bonaparte, Empress of France, circa 1810. Ivory full plate verge movement, chain fusée, plain brass three armed balance, large ivory cock pierced and engraved with the Imperial coat-of-arms of Empress Josephine Bonaparte, set with a blued metal shield. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer Arabic and star shaped minute divisions, inner ring with gold inscription Josephine Gallorum primae Imperatrici and painted rose decoration. Case with finely engraved scroll and foliage decorated bezel and rim, glazed display back.
