The chronograph has played a significant role in the firm of Patek Philippe. The chronograph complication was first invented around 1822 and the first chronograph with a hand that returned to its initial position was invented in 1862. This piece has a simple chronograph mechanism that starts, stops and returns to zero by a button that is operated through the crown. The watch is further fitted with a locking mechanism at 1 o’clock that provides useful assistance when worn in the pocket.
