This present watch represents the marriage between two of the oldest families in England. The arms are those of Lady Charlotte Courteney, daughter of William 8th Earl of Devon, 2nd Viscount Courtenay and his wife Frances Clack. These arms are intertwined with those of her husband Thomas Giffard 23rd of Chillington married on the 23rd June 1788.
