Rare and beautiful Geneva 18K yellow gold and enamel open faced pocket watch with cylinder escapement, 22 enamel portraits and gold chain, circa 1860.
The case with 22 radial tapering enamel segments which show the coats of arms of the Swiss cantons on the front and 22 young ladies in the typical costumes of the cantons on the back, a central round enamel plaque is finely painted with a Swiss landscape showing a lakeside farmstead and high, sunlit mountains in the background. Two-coloured gilt dial, the centre part with enamelled foliate decor, painted Roman hours and an outer minute track. Signed mechanical 4/5 plate movement, key wind, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.
