A rare and large gilt metal, enamel and split pearl set center seconds quarter repeating open faced musical watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1860. Gilt two train movement, lever escapement, bimetallic compensation balance, slide repeat, pinned disc music, gilt metal cuvette engraved with details of the movement. White enamel dial, Roman numerals and center seconds. The case back polychrome enameled with a lively scene of a lion hunt, depicting a turbaned hunter astride a horse shooting a lion, with another hunter in the foreground and elephant in the background within a palm tree laden landscape, bezel set with split pearls. Dial, movement and cuvette signed.
