The five minute repeating watch was developed in England around 1710 by Samuel Watson. Watson was made free of the Clockmakers’ Company in London in 1687 and made clocks for King Charles II and Sir Isaac Newton. Watson also invented the first known stopwatch with heart rate measurement. Five minute repeaters are considerably rarer than quarter and minute repeating watches.
