Pocket watch finely chiseled flowers on the back
–
A pocket watch with a precision lever escapement, made by Vacheron & Constantin in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1890. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from 14 carat gold and has finely chiselled flowers on the back lid with an empty cartouche in the middle. The very beautiful white enamel dial has an outer five minute ring with Arabic numerals, Roman hour numerals and gold hands. The numbered movement has a very fine Vacheron & Constantin precision lever escapement, a moustache lever and wolf’s toothing.
The cuvette is probably signed by the retailer in Köln, Germany.

Chiselled
In pocket watch making, “chiselled” typically refers to the engraving technique where intricate designs are created on the watch case, movement, or other components by removing material with a sharp tool called a burin or chisel. This hand crafted process adds a decorative element and can significantly enhance the watch’s aesthetic appeal.
