Gold and enamel important precision watch
–
An important hunting cased minute repeating pocket watch with chronograph made in Switzerland for the fifth Shah of Persia, Mozaffar ad-Din, circa 1905. The numbered case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, it has a spring lid with a polychrome enamel portrait, representing the fifth Shah as the commander of the Persian Guard, the original jewellery set with diamonds and rubies, a back lid with the Persian coat of arms depicting a lion, sabre, sun and laurel wreath, and a further fantastically enamelled band. The red engine turned enamel dial has gold Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, outermost fifth of a second divisions calibrated from 0 to 300, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold hands. The numbered cuvette is inscribed Mouvement de la Vallée and engraved with a list of the technical details. The glazed movement has a highly complicated Swiss precision lever escapement.
