An extremely rare purse with concealed watch made by Henry Golay in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1850. This high quality piece, crafted from 18 carat gold, is engine turned and richly floral and foliate engraved on both sides, with on the front a button to open the purse featuring three compartments lined with blue silk, in excellent, original condition, on the top there is a small slide to open the translucent blue enamelled cover, under which the watch is concealed. The small white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, outer minute divisions and steel spade hands. The miniature movement is fitted with a cylinder escapement, eight rubies and is stamped with maker’s mark HG for Henry Golay.
