Gold five minute repeater
–
A extremely rare full hunter cased watch with five minute repeater made for Tiffany & CO in New York by Patek, Philippe & Cie in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1890. The numbered case of this watch, crafted from 18 carat gold, has a gift dedication dated Christmas 1890 on the inside of the back lid, which also has a monogram on the outside. The white enamel dial has black Arabic hours, an outer minute track, red Arabic five minute numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and blued steel hands. The glazed movement has a Patek Philippe lever escapement with Geneva striping decoration, wolf’s toothing and a five minute repeater.
Case, dial and movement are signed.

The complication of the five minute repeater was mainly made by Patek Philippe for the American market. Almost all the pieces with this complication were delivered to Tiffany as open faced watches. Hunting cased watches, especially of this caliber, are extremely rare.
