Gold open faced lever pocket watch
–
A historically interesting chronometer pocket watch made in the workshop of Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, circa 1850. This is likely an apprentice watch. The smooth open faced case, crafted from 18 carat gold, has a reeded band,
and its cuvette is numbered and inscribed Chronomètre. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and
blued steel spade hands. The exquisite movement is fitted with a pivot detent chronometer escapement, diamond endstone and helical hairspring.
The cuvette is signed.

Besides the distinctive signature and numbering, there is another remarkable detail on the inside back lid, namely a service punch from the workshop of Paul Ditisheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, dated 1902, which makes this timepiece a highly interesting pocket chronometer.
