The case of this watch was probably replaced relatively early in its life, possibly as a result of the original having been damaged. Many watches of this type were sold in America and it is probable that the original owner thought it too difficult or costly to return the watch to Switzerland for a new case. The screw down bezels of the present case also attest to their American origin.
