Hausmann & Co. is one of the most historically significant and enduring luxury watch and jewellery retailers in Italy. Founded in Rome in 1794 by the German clockmaker Giovanni Romano Hausmann, the firm began as a small watchmaking workshop in the historic Palazzo Piombino before expanding into its famous flagship boutique on Via del Corso. Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the company built an unparalleled reputation among European nobility, high clergy, and international dignitaries for exceptional mechanical expertise, eventually earning the exclusive title of official clockmaker to the Holy See and the Vatican. Rather than manufacturing their own movements, Hausmann & Co collaborated closely with premier Swiss manufacturers to retail high grade timepieces that were custom ordered and stamped with their retail signature. Their retail operations in Rome and Naples during the early twentieth century were renowned for supplying specialized professional instruments, including highly accurate military chronographs and sophisticated medical pulsometer pocket watches crafted to the highest standards of Swiss horology.
