Gold lever pocket watch with open face by Vacheron & Constantin

A very fine precision Swiss open faced chronometer watch by Vacheron & Constantin with a rare special dial, circa 1899. Made for the court watchmaker Grottendieck in Brussels.
Signed very fine Ankerchronometer movement, special chronometer balance, moustache lever, No. 306133. Exceptionally beautiful dial with Art Nouveau numerals, red 12/24, outer minutes track, subsidiary dial for the seconds, and pink gold filigree hands. Polished 18K gold à-goutte case, case number 185462, case punch Vacheron & Constantin, dome dated June 1899 and both signatures: Vacheron & Constantin Genève; and CH. Grottendieck Bruxelles.

Charles Grottendieck was a jeweller and watchmaker with a large reputation in Brussels. In 1890 he was appointed watchmaker to the King and Queen. His pocket watches were ordered only from the best manufacturers, mostly Patek Philippe, LeCoultre & Cie, Longines and Vacheron Constantin.
