Gold open faced repeating cylinder watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch from the mid-19th century. This watch has a key wound mechanical movement with a spiral balance, a fall prevention system, and a cylinder escapement. The quarter repeating striking mechanism is triggered by adjusting the crown and operates a two hammer gong chime. The white enamel dial shows Roman numerals for the hours, a minute track, and Breguet hands. The round 18 carat yellow gold case has a back chased with flower motifs. The gold cuvette bears an apocryphal Breguet à Paris signature and technical indications, with two key winding squares: one for the hours and minutes, the other for the striking mechanism.
