Gold open faced lever watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch made by Elix, dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1925. It has a mechanical hand wound movement with lever escapement, housed within an inner metal dust cover. The silvered dial shows bold black Arabic numeral hour markers, an outer railway minute track with 24 hour markers (13-24), a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and blued steel hands. The dial is signed Elix. The 18 carat gold case is decorated with geometric Art Deco engine turned (guilloché) patterns and has surface scratches consistent with use. The Swiss origin is confirmed by the 18 carat gold hallmarks and the maker’s signature.
