A Swiss 18 carat gold and enamel open faced pocket watch made by Robert Brandt & Compagnie, circa 1825. The numbered and signed, key wind gilt full plate cylinder movement features a Bagnolet caliber, and engraved scrolls and foliage. The case has a polychrome painted enamel scene on the reverse showing Samson and Delilah, engraved foliate decoration to the rim.

–
The dial has a scratch in the center but no visible cracks. The case has a slightly loose hinge and the enamel is scratched in some areas, but there are no missing pieces.
–
The biblical story of Samson and Delilah tells of Delilah, a Philistine woman who was bribed to betray Samson by persuading him to reveal the secret of his strength, which was his long hair.

Bagnolet caliber
In the Bagnolet caliber, the movement is inverted and the train reversed. The idea was to make a very thin watch by reducing the thickness of the bridges and dial, and eliminating the cuvette. Philippe Samuel Meylan is credited with inventing the Bagnolet caliber.
