A Swiss decorative quarter repeating gold enamel verge “Erato” pocket watch, circa 1795.
18 carat gold case; bezel decorated with foliate scrolls, the back with a polychrome enamel depiction of Erato, the muse of love poetry and a putto on a light green ground, Champlevé border with translucent enamel foliage, rear bell, pusher for repetition via pendant, large lateral hinge. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours and gold “Poker & Beetle” hands. Fine full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, signed, with chain/fusee, solid movement pillars, 2 hammers, three-arm brass balance and fine florally engraved and pierced balance bridge.

The Patry & Chaudoir company also known as Chaudoir & Patry was based in Geneva and operated from 1791 to 1796 . It was a collaboration between Alexander Patry and Louis-François-Guilliaume Chaudoir . Before that, Alexander Patry worked for Patry & Chenevière . Alexander was married to Aimée Marie Chenevière who was a sister of the Geneva watchmaker Pierre Chenevière (1766-1849).

The company Patry & Chenevière was a collaboration between Alexander and Pierre Chenevière or what Ehefrou Aimée Marie business partner was. After 1796, Alexander and Louis-François-Guilliaume continued to work independently. The Chaudoir company became known for its clocks with striking mechanisms, skeleton clocks, clocks with alarm clocks, Jaquemarts and erotic clocks. Patry & Chenevière was still listed in 1825 . Alexander Patry died on December 21, 1822 , Aimée Marie Chenevière died on November 11, 1830.
