Unique gold and enamel full hunter case watch
–
A unique gold and enamel full hunter case watch with extensive diamond setting, made by the European Watch and Clock Company, Neuchâtel, Switzerland and likely modernised by Cartier, circa 1925. This exceptionally rare and precious watch features a double hinged case crafted in 18 carat gold, richly decorated with blue engine turned enamel on both sides and bordered by large Old European cut diamonds, totalling approximately 15–20 carats. A further large Old European cut diamond adorns the crown, while the interior is finished in black enamel.
The white enamel dial displays Arabic numerals with gold hands. The movement, fitted with a lever escapement, is wound through the crown.
Both the dial and movement are signed.

The case of the item presented here is one of the most precious pocket watch cases from the 19th century known. The diamond setting of approxoximately 15-20 carats shows that this pocket watch was made for a very special and, above all, wealthy customer, most probably from the Russian market. This watch was then modernised in the 20th century, probably by Cartier. It is very likely that the watch also received the black enamelling on the inside at this time and that the pendant was converted to crown winding.
