Heavy pocket watch with engine tuned case

A heavy pocket watch with a caliber Jones movement, made by the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, circa 1876. The case of this watch was crafted from American gilt and features an engine turned back lid with an empty cartouche in the center. The original enamel dial in excellent condition features an outer minutes and hour track with Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and original Breguet steel hands. The unusual quality Jones movement is equipped with lever escapement and screwed chatons.

Caliber Jones
A Caliber Jones (or Jones Calibre) refers to the first, highly robust, and historically significant pocket watch movements produced by the International Watch Company (IWC) in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, beginning around 1870–1872. They are named after Florentine Ariosto Jones (F.A. Jones), an American engineer and watchmaker who founded IWC in 1868 with the aim of combining Swiss craftsmanship with modern American industrial manufacturing techniques.
