A fine Swiss gold and enamel open faced quarter repeating cylinder pocket watch with matching chain and key, circa 1850.
Gilt cylinder movement, repeating the quarter hours on a gong, two hammers.
Gold cuvette. Silver dial with Roman numerals, guilloché sunray pattern. The case decorated with polychrome cloisonné enamel flowers, repeating mechanism set through the later gold pendant. Comes with a gold and enamel matching chain and key. Cuvette signed and numbered.

Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects with coloured material held in place or separated by metal strips or wire, normally of gold. In recent centuries, vitreous enamel has been used, but inlays of cut gemstones, glass and other materials were also used during older periods, indeed, cloisonné enamel very probably began as an easier imitation of cloisonné work using gems. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné.
