Gold astronomical pocket watch

A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold double dialled astronomical keyless pocket watch made by Girard Perregaux in La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1890. With a triple calendar and phases of the moon. The case is glazed on both sides with a ribbed band and plain bezels. The face with a white enamel dial featuring Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued steel spade hands. The white enamel dial on the reverse with three subsidiary dials for the moon phases, days of the week and the months, and a further outer chapter ring for the date indication.

A nickel movement, damascened with a radial pattern, 17 jewels, finished calendar plate, calibrated straight line lever escapement and cut bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring. Both dials and the movement are signed.
