An early, extremely rare Swiss pocket watch with a minute repeater, circa 1850. Made by purveyor to the court Frederic (Fritz) Courvoisier, La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Engine turned 18K gold à-goutte case with an engraved monogram in the cartouche, dome signed and numbered. Signed enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track, subsidiary dial for the seconds, and unusual steel and gold hands. Extremely fine precision lever mechanism with special lever, golden running wheels, wolf teeth and early minute repeater, very rare and extremely fine calibre.

Frédérick Courvoisier from La Chaux-de-Fonds is considered a very fine watchmaker. He manufactured the finest qualities, right up to his famous tourbillons. Frédéric-Alexandre Courvoisier (Fritz) was born on June 1, 1799 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. He was the son of Louis Courvoisier and Julie Houriet. Frédéric Courvoisier was trained in Geneva, Couvet and Basel. In 1842 he separated from his brothers. Philippe-Auguste and Henri-Louis founded the Courvoisier Frères company, La Chaux-de-Fonds; Frédéric founded his own company “Fritz Courvoisier”, which was very successful in Spain. His branch as a purveyor to the court was also located there.
