Gold minute repeating pocket watch by Audemars Piguet

A fine and rare, keyless-winding, minute repeating, Swiss gold pocket watch with split-seconds chronograph and 30-minute register, made for the American market, circa 1900. Retailed by Hammersmith & Field, San Francisco (California).
Round-shaped 18-carat yellow gold case with hinged case back, case back engraved in taille-douce with a cypher, and minute-repeater on two steel gongs (activated by the slide at 8 o’clock). Enamel dial with Breguet radial hours, 1/5 second chronograph (triggered by the winding crown), outer minutes/seconds track with red Arabic five minutes/seconds numerals, subsidiary dial for the seconds at 6, split-seconds (activated by the rectangular push-piece located on the case band at 11 o’clock), dragging 30-minute recorder (subsidiary dial at 12 o’clock), and spade hands. Rhodium-plated 17″movement with going barrel, straight-line equilibrated lever escapement, compensated balance and blued steel hairspring with a terminal curve, index regulator with swan-neck spring and micrometric screw. Dial and movement signed (with the retailer name). Accompanied with an extract from the Archives.
