An exceptionally large gold/enamel Swiss verge watch with repeater on bell and pearl trim, circa 1790. This watch has a signed and numbered verge movement, repeating the hours and quarters on the bell. Signed enamel dial with Breguet-style radial hours, outer minutes track with Arabic fifteen minutes numerals and attractive pink gold hands. Pair-cases: glazed, gold-plated protective case; very fine gold outer case, back set with half pearls (one pearl missing), back with enamel painting, painting signed Julie, an elaborate and very rare enamelling technique in 3 different designs, central the classic enamel painting, surrounded by light blue enamel with inlaid gold symbols, torch, quiver, musical instruments and musical sheets of gold are worked into the enamel, on all four sides a flower motif, again set with a half pearl, the outer rim with very fine paillone enamel.

Antoine Moilliet & Cie. worked in Geneva from around 1790 to 1810 and specialized in enamel and shaped watches. It is believed that Antoine Moilliet was Daniel Moilliet’s son.

Antoine Moilliet was the son of watchmaker Daniel Moilliet and Marie Baumgartner. He was born in 1768 and died in Geneva on May 9, 1844. He was co-owner of the company Antoine Moilliet & Cie.
