A Swiss heavy gold hunting cased pocket watch for the American market, circa 1860.
18 Carat gold, polished, à goutte case with reeded band, gold dome and glazed movement. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds and blued Breguet hands. Signed, rhodium-plated bridge movement with Geneva Striping, pink gold train, screwed gold chatons, wolfteeth winding wheels, gold screw compensation balance and counterpoised lever.

Henri Louis Matile, Swiss watchmaker,
Henri Louis Matile was based in Le Locle, he was born on March 3, 1817, to Henri Louis Matile and Augustine Robert Grandpierre. Henri Louis married Laure Ducommun and from this marriage, 3 children were born. His son Henri Louis Matile became the prefect of Boudry.

At the Centennial Exhibition at Philadelphia in 1876, Matile was represented with its precision watches. In 1877, 1880 and 1882 he received awards at trade fairs in Neuchatel. Representatives for Matile in the US included Mathey Brothers, Mathez & Co, Star & Marcuse in New York, and I. Smith & Brother, Albany NY
