Gold hunting cased pocket watch by Patek Philippe

An 18k gold Swiss hunter cased keyless lever watch with Adrien Philippe’s patent stem winding/stem setting system, circa 1850. Gilt movement with substantial main bridge, jewelled to the third wheel, escapement with steel right angle lever, uncut bimetallic balance with flat blued spring, wolf’s tooth winding gears.
The case with textured lids and chased band, movement signed “Patek et Comp front plate adjacent spring barrel, signed dial with maker’s scratch number on reverse, case numbered. Signed on the cuvette: Invention et exécution de Patek, Philippe & Co. A Genève 1850’s.
White enamel dial with Roman chapters, subsidiary seconds at 8 o’clock, blued steel Breguet hands.

Invention brévetée (patented invention), a referral to the French Patent, No. 1 317, registered in Paris on April 22, 1845 by Jean-Adrien Philippe (1815- 1894); this invention was described by his inventor as “un système ou disposition mécanique de remontoir et de mise à l’heure des montres par le pendant, disposition qui peut être appliquée à toute espèce de montres ordinaires, à répétition, de marine, et même aux montres à secondes indépendantes” (a system or mechanism for winding and setting watches by the pendant, which can be applied to all types of ordinary watches, with repeater, deck chronometers, and even for watches with independent seconds).
