Silver open faced pocket watch by Pierre Tollot

A rare Swiss Geneva verge pocket watch with alarm, circa 1700.
This watch has two cases: a silver pierced outer case with large lateral hinge and a silver pierced and engraved inner case, decorated with volutes, acanthus, animals and an engraved portrait medallion and it has also a rear bell. The dial is silver champlevé with inlaid radial Roman numerals, a central rotating alarm disc with Arabic numerals and a small blued alarm hand, an engraved flower in the centre and a single blued steel hand. And the movement is a full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, signed, applied florally engraved and pierced ornaments, chain/fusee, engraved barrel for alarm, baluster movement pillars, large three-arm steel balance, large florally engraved pierced balance bridge with engraved cherub face.

Pierre Tollot
Swiss / French watchmaker, Pierre Tollot was born in Geneva in 1671 and trained as a watchmaker by Antoine II Arlaud in 1685. According to some sources, he was also active in Paris. Tollot is also mentioned in the book “Pierre Fatio et la crise de 1707” (Geneva) by Olivier Fatio and, Nicole Fatio 2007 edition.
Small clocks from him are / were in the Berlin Castle Museum and in the Geneva Museum.

Pierre Tollot died on January 19, 1742 in Geneva.
