An excellent gold enamel Swiss pocket watch of museum quality for the Chinese market, circa 1895. It was one of the last pocket watches produced for the Chinese market in the traditional style of the early 19th century. 18 Carat gold case with the pendant and the bezels set with half-pearls; backside with a wonderful polychrome enamel painting: a mandolin player plays for a noble lady; in her train are a bearded and turbaned man holding a jewellery case in his hands and a page boy carrying a crown on a cushion. Enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, centre seconds, gold spade hands. Bridge movement, keywind, gilt, lavishly florally engraved, signed, lavishly florally engraved going barrel, duplex escapement, five-arm steel balance, blued balance spring, fine florally engraved, pierced balance cock, chatoned diamond endstone on balance.
