A very fine Swiss, 18K gold, hunting cased, keyless pocket chronometer watch, circa 1860. A solid case, engine-turned case back, ribbed band, hinged gold cuvette, inside cover engraved Purity. Integrity. Industry. Your Father’s Gift. White enamel dial with painted radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with 5-minute Arabic markers, sunk subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel fleurs-de-lys hands. A frosted gilt movement, 15 jewels, fusee with chain and maintaining power, pivoted detent escapement, cut bimetallic balance, blued steel spherical balance spring. This is an early and unusual form of keyless winding movement. Signed on the cuvette.
