A very fine Swiss 18 carat gold and enamel open faced cylinder pocket watch à deux couleurs, circa 1800. Full plate movement, cylinder escapement, key wind. Gilt dial decorated with engraved foliate scrolls, an eccentric white enamel dial with Arabic hours and outer minute divisions, a visible balance at 6 o’clock. The case is chased and engraved, a polychrome enamel scene on the back depicting a maid gazing raptly at the love letter in her hand, while Cupid is leaning over her shoulder to read the letter and at the same time prick her with his love arrow, which he has disguised as a rose, maker’s mark CGT. Movement signed, case numbered.
