Rose gold open faced repeater
–
A technically very interesting Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced quarter repeating à toc center seconds pocket watch made by Decombaz, circa 1790. An early Lépine caliber movement with a cylinder escapement and two hammers. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute divisions, Arabic quarter hour numerals and rose gold hands. The plain case with maker’s mark JD. Cuvette numbered and signed Decombaz.

Diameter: 55 mm

Weight: 120 g

–
Decombaz was the most important of Breguet’s movement manufacturers.
–
This watch is so similar to those of Lépine that there is hardly any doubt that Decombaz also made movements for him. Also, the case design with an integrated hinge, the dial and especially the very special hands indicate Jean-Antoine Lépine as the manufacturer of this watch!
Signed: Decombaz
