Flower basket form watch with heart-shaped movement

An extremely rare Swiss 18 carat gold and enamel gem-set form watch, circa 1850. Heart-shaped movement, cylinder escapement, key winding. Cuvette also heart-shaped. White enamel dial with Roman hours and outer minute divisions, miniature Breguet hands. Unique case in the form of a flower basket, decorated with two different enamelling techniques, on the front raised enamel with inlaid gold tendrils, set with real rubies, the back with a classic enamel painting depicting a bouquet of flowers, spring lid mechanism on both sides. Comes in the original box with the English retailer’s signature Chapman Portsea.

In this version and preservation, the watch is a rarity. There are watches by Patek Philippe and Vacheron & Constantin with heart-shaped movements known. The numbering could well indicate a Patek Philippe work around 1850.
