Four-coloured gold repeating verge by Isaac Soret
–
A very well preserved Swiss 18 carat gold triple cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1750. Complicated verge movement, repeating the hours and quarter hours. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, probably original hands. Glazed protective case with soundholes, four-coloured gold outer case, relief scene with fountain, altar, dog and doves on the back, the finest soundholes, both rims florally decorated, inside a very rare paper calendar, possibly an equation of time calendar, the inner case pierced with floral tendrils as well a grotesque face. Dial and cuvette signed and numbered, cuvette and movement with matching numbers.

Diameter: 45 mm

Due to the protection in the glazed outer case, this four-coloured gold verge pocket watch is in an almost unused condition, the quality and condition of the case are outstanding.

Isaac Soret was an important French/Swiss watchmaker. He was born in Geneva in 1673 and later founded the company Isaac Soret & Fils together with his son David, who was also a watchmaker. It is assumed that his daughter Susanne Soret also worked in the workshop. Isaac Soret died around 1750 in Geneva.
