A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1838. This watch features a movement with a cylinder escapement and fall prevention system, repeating the quarter hours with two hammers on a gong. It has a silvered dial with a guilloché swirling motif, Roman numeral hour markers and outer minute divisions on a brushed chapter ring, and gold Breguet hands. The flat case includes a guilloché back, gold cuvette, locking bolt on the band, and horsehead and sphinx hallmarks.
