A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold open faced pocket chronometer with Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, circa 1880. Rhodium plated movement, fausses côtes decoration, half plate, jeweled to the centre, Earnshaw type spring footed detent escapement with jeweled locking stone, gold escape wheel with gold mounted endstone, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and original blued steel spade hands. Case polished and engine turned. Dial, case and movement signed.
